Description
The Common Murre is a seabird that can be found in North-Atlantic and northern Pacific waters. They spend most of their time at sea and have ben recorded diving up to 600 feet (180m) to catch fish. They only come to land to nest on offshore islands in large colonies. Most Common Murres have totally black faces. In the North-Atlantic some individuals have white spectacles and are referred to as 'spectacled guillemots.' Machias Seal Island, Maine, USA.
