Description
Often called the snake bird because of its long neck, the Anhinga is found in tropical wetlands from the southern United States to South America. They feed by diving underwater and spearing fish with their lance-like beak. The Anhinga lacks the waterproof oils that waterfowl have on their feathers, forcing them to dry out in the sun before they can fly. This female Anhinga was photographed in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA.
